World of Sidria - a persistent Neverwinter Nights world

Sidria - The Laernean Empire Campaign - is a semi-persistent roleplay world. We are live, but only by appointment. A weekly game night is organized by DM Methcalcior. Other events are by announcement. At this time the original plot line has been played out, to a great extent, and new events are on the horizon. Watch this space for more announcements as the weeks pass.

An overview map of the seven cities area of the world of Sidria
Welcome to Sidria!

Sidria and the Seven Cities have been in play as a pen and paper Dungeons and Dragons campaign setting for over twenty years. The Seven Cities, a major region of Sidria, will be brought to life in the Neverwinter Nights game, by BioWare - see link to BioWare below.

This map shows an overview of the Seven Cities region of the world of Sidria. Initial game development will be concentrated in this region. The city of Atalon will be the primary portal module, with approximately two dozen areas detailing the largest city in Sidria. Other modules will be released at about the same time, including many more towns and several extensive quest areas.

Characters will interact with the world in a persistent fashion. Unlike in MMORPGs the Sidria world will reflect the changes that your character makes. If you perform heroic deeds you will gain fame and possibly fortune. Your character's name will become well known. You might even find that a community grants you land, or puts up a statue in your honor.

Sidria will be a server vault, semi-persistant world with extensive DM involvement. So you can always expect to find a fun adventure with minimum griefing. We plan to have limited or no PVP in the major cities, but full PVP in the quest areas. Roleplaying will be strongly encouraged and your actions will have in-game consequencces.

Latest News from Sidria

As we now have the world gates working most of the time, I wanted to put some more informative material here for potential visitors. The ciyt of Atalon remains safe, for the most part. There are a few bandits hiding out in the slums of the Warrens District, and around Low Gate, but in general the city remains a pleasant refuge.

Although the main trade routes remain closed, trade portals are working to some of the towns and cities of the region. More trade portals will be established in the near future as the requisite magical components are acquired and delivered to the appropriate locations. It is likely that brave volunteers (or even brave mercenaries) may be employed to make these deliveries.

Tanader area, north of the Seven Cities. Dark Elf Infiltrators have been spotted in many locales outside Atalon, causing many of the outlying villages to remain under martial law. There will clearly have to be searches made to find where these dark elves are based, and raids made against those bases.

While Atalon is the largest city in the region (and probably in all of Sidria), the other jewels in the crown are also important cities in their own right. Maraket lies fifty miles north of Atalon, along the coast of the Doorain Sea. It is near the road to Crystal Glen - a large dwarven mining outpost. Galator lies north of Atalon, astride a great river. Galator sits at the crossroads to South Tanader. Galator is a major center of learning - particularly in the magical arts. South Tanader is a forested city which rises on stilts in a swamp. It is a center for agriculture and forestry - and provides much of the lumber and exotic crops for the region. The northernmost city of the Seven Cities is Dubior - an important trade center at a major regional crossroads. Dubior is also the home of one of the only known academies of sorcery. Sorcerors almost always learn their arts alone, but a few enterprising Sorcerors have managed to develop a training program that encourages the growth and development of sorcery, and it has proven to be a wild success. Dubior has reported more incursions of dark elf infiltrators than any other city in the region.

Despite the troubles in the north, two of the seven gems in the crown of the Seven Cities remain fervent centers of trade and intrigue. Keltor and Khordan are unthreatened by the war in the North, though recent rumors of a naval arm of the Dark Elf invasion have sea captains keeping closer to shore along the Coast Road between the two cities.

With the northbound caravans coming out of the Sumran and Bardir Deserts come rumors the Caliphate of the Crescent Moon, which encompasses parts of both deserts, has come under attack by an unknown army. The invaders apparently have the goal of reaching the Seven Cities, but Caliph Zuk al E'sloshe has managed to keep the invaders at bay. More disturbing is the news from the Caliphate that Bardir Nomads, usually friendly despite their draconian heritage, have been sighted as complements in the invading forces.

These reports are, as of yet, unconfirmed.

Previous News from Sidria

Summer has finally brought good news! The world gates are working sporadically. A few hearty sojourners have been seen popping into Atalon. Few stay long, but they have enlivened the hearts of the war weary inhabitants of this region.

Unfortunately the news from the north is not so good. Melaz continues to hold out and the dark elves do not seem ready to thrust deeper to the south, but the areas they hold have been consolidated, and no more refugees are escaping. The paladins of the Order of the Emerald Fist who went north with every horse in the region report that they have suffered terrible losses in their attempts to throw the dark elves back from their lines. The summer heat has made the constant storms nearly unbearable, and the rotting horseflesh is adding to the pall and stench that suffuses the area.

It is hoped that soon the world gates will be steady enough to support long term and repeated visitation by heroes who will come to the aid of our beleaguered world. At this time the Grand Council of Atalon and the Seven Cities has issued a decree that all trade roads and "King's Roads" will be closed to unnecessary travel until further notice. If you must travel between cities you will have to get papers from the Grand Council and proceed by Trade Portal.

Further word has come that the humanoids in the Sparse Heath area have begun to organize raiding parties. Many small towns in the region have reported incursions into their fields and farmlands.
